Irap / Bloomberg Philanthropies Project – Fortaleza, São Paulo And Bogota
The new phase of the Global Initiative for Road Safety, developed by Gloomberg Philanthropies, which aims at reducing deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents, has selected five countries and ten cities (including Fortaleza, São Paulo, and Bogota) to join the program.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative’s partners offering support to cities and selected countries are:Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Embarq, National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), The Union North America (UNA), World Health Organization e The World Bank-led Global Road Safety Facility..
The Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF), a global partnership program of the World Bank, based in Washington, DC, aims to address the growing crisis of deaths and road traffic injuries in low- and middle-income countries. GRSF helps countries assess high-risk roads, provides technical and financial assistance and consulting services, and makes policy recommendations for multisectoral integration of road safety projects.
GRSF, in turn, requested support from the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) in the evaluation of selected roads in the cities of São Paulo, Fortaleza, and Bogotá. In this way, the Laboratory of Transport and Logistics (LabTrans / UFSC), the only iRAP Center of Excellence in Brazil, actively works with iRAP to evaluate and analyze these routes, aiming at presenting the Classification by Stars by type of user (occupants of vehicles, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists), as well as indicating Insurance Plans for Safer Routes. In addition, LabTrans / UFSC contributes to the development of training of technical teams in Brazilian cities, including the application of the iRAP methodology and the analysis of results.
