Education for traffic – School Project

The Traffic Perception Project – School Project aims at raising awareness and guiding the school community about the need to adopt preventive measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents, based on a concept of traffic education that includes the perception of risk, risk awareness and safe behavior.

In the project, the traffic content is developed in a transversal way to the curricular contents of the school, with the transit theme being taught together with the contents of the curricular subjects of Elementary School. In addition, the educational material used by the project complies with the National Transit Education Directives of the National Transit Department (DENTRAN), for the initial years (1st to 5th year) and for the final years (6th to 9th year), of Elementary School.

As 38.6% of elementary schools are located up to 2,000 meters from the highways under DNIT’s jurisdiction, it is these schools that DNIT wants to achieve in order to develop the activities of the School Project.

This project, which began its activities in 2006, has already included more than 9,000 primary school students (from 1st to 5th grades and from 6th to 9th grades), from 22 schools in 10 municipalities in the State of Santa Catarina. In 2011, there was a participant school in the State of Espírito Santo. In the future, the DNIT intends to expand this project to other federation units, nation-wide.
