OD Matrix from Mobile Big Data
In partnership between the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and LabTrans / UFSC, an origin and destination matrix for the displacement of people by air and non-air transport (land, waterway and others) in the country was developed. The work was developed to understand the true origins and destinations of trips made throughout the national territory, based on the year 2017.
The work aimed to provide the civil aviation sector with information to improve the process of formulating public policies, helping to understand how people actually travel in Brazil with a sample never collected and studied. It allows the development of an integrated planning of transport modes, a more efficient allocation of resources and the development and implementation of more assertive public policies for the sector.
The methodology for obtaining the matrix consisted of analyzing the Big Data of mobile telephony, which has the location information of the users, together with the crossing of updated and reliable socioeconomic information provided by government institutions (IBGE, Ministry of Infrastructure, SAC, ANAC and others).
