SUPPORT TO INFRASTRUCTURE INSPECTION AND INVESTIGATION OF SEVERE RAILROAD ACCIDENTS
This project consists of studies, research and implementation of procedures aimed at promoting safety in railway transportation, working with two different focuses: the support of railway infrastructure monitoring, and the support in the investigation of severe railroad accidents.
To this end, a basic registry was developed for the existing bridges and bypasses in the previously registered railway segments, as well as an assessment of the physical condition of such infrastructure with identification of the critical spots that present an imminent risk. This information was stored in updateable databases that can be used for control in periodic maintenance inspections.
Also, a number of mechanisms and procedures were developed for the determination of causes, responsibilities, and consequences of severe rail accidents.
