Traffic microsimulation in the analysis of modifications on urban streets

The government of the city of São José / SC decided to make changes in the traffic of 4 important streets, dividing them into 3 blocks: Av. Lédio João Martins (bl 1), Rua Koesa (bl 1), Av Josué di Bernardi (bl 2) and Rua Irmãos Vieira (bl 3). For each block, some alternative traffic scenarios have been specified. Traffic microsymulations were carried out in order to verify the impact of the proposed changes in the studied road system.

The execution was done in 3 steps: simulation of the current situation, to verify if the modeling was in agreement with the reality; simulation with consolidated changes, considering that some changes contained in the scenarios would have their implementation executed independently of the results obtained; and, finally, simulation of the proposed scenarios. As a result of this process, several indicators were generated that allowed the City Hall to determine which scenarios would be the best, according to the objectives determined by it, for road changes. The project used Aimsun traffic simulation software.
