Integrated Station (EI) With Its Aggregated Technologies for Weighing in Motion

The implementation and operation of an Integrated Station (EI) is part of the Cooperation Agreement established between LabTrans / UFSC and DNIT (TC 497/2012) in order to test different types of Weigh-In moving weighing systems -Motion (WIM) for heavy traffic.

The Integrated Station (EI) concept consists of the integration of WIM systems added to other Smart Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies, with the aim of automating processes involving weight control in road vehicles and the collection of traffic data. The EI is a pilot project of Virtual Weighing Station in Brazilian conditions and has the purpose of promoting subsidies for the implementation of this type of technological solution in the country’s road context.

The pilot project was implemented at a test track, at km 417, on the BR-101 south highway, in Araranguá / SC. The track is 177 meters long, and its floor has been designed specifically for the project. The different applications idealized for EI range from the collection of traffic data for road planning to the pre-selection of potentially offending vehicles at the highway’s guiding speed. The products generated include the methodology for designing, building and implementing the EI, as well as covering the operation and system evaluation manual.
