Traffic education – Itinerant Project “Galera do DNIT”

LabTrans / UFSC supports the DNIT for the design, structuring, production, and follow-up of traffic education campaigns and workshops aiming at promoting safer traffic for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and passengers in general.

In the educational campaigns of the Itinerant Project “Galera do DNIT”, which are developed in elementary schools (1^st to 5^th grades and 6^th to 9^th grades), close to the federal highways under DNIT jurisdiction, the subject of traffic is approached in a way students will learn, in addition to the importance of kindness in traffic, regarding the notions of signaling and safe behavior, through activities such as: lectures, accomplishment of the School Bus route, puppet theater, games (such as board game or the game of questions and answers) and many more.

These actions have already taken place in Brasília, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Santa Catarina and should be extended to other Brazilian states. In the country, more than 4,000 students, from 22 schools, were attended to with educational campaigns. In Santa Catarina, for example, more than 1,000 students have already been studying in seven municipal and state schools in the municipalities of Florianópolis, São José and Paulo Lopes.
