Simulation of Rail Operations
Simulation of Rail Operations
It comprises the simulation of train operations, considering their movements and performance along the rail route which is the object of study. To achieve this goal, the Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) software is used.
The data feeding the simulation program can be segmented into three categories:
- Rail routing: considering its geometric, horizontal, and vertical characteristics;
- Infrastructure: rail crossings and signaling along the rail route;
- Operation: trains with their cargoes and respective directions (origin-destination).
With the data supplied, the RTC carries out the simulation, generating information about the performance of the trains. Based on the data generated, it is possible to evaluate, among other aspects, the stresses applied on the trains, fuel consumption, and the behavior between trains on the rail routing. For carrying out these analyses, several types of graphs are made available. It is also possible to export the results into other software programs, enabling other analyses to be carried out.
