Traffic Micro-simulation

The road infrastructure is modeled into the computer and data from counting originates the loadof vehicles traveling on it. Each vehicle is modeled individually, and statistical techniques are applied inthe calibration and validation of the model.

The drivers' behavior is described by probability distributions, recreating the heterogeneity that canbe observed in reality. The interaction between vehicles is obtained by applying algorithms of car-following, lane-changing and gap acceptance.

The model is represented in a three-dimensional virtual scenario. The traffic data obtained fromthe simulation are presented in maps, charts and tables.

Through the construction of alternative infrastructure models it is possible to evaluate each situationin the virtual scenario and identify the best alternative in terms of traffic flows before the execution ofprojects.
